Third Annual Public Auction Fundraiser To Be Held on Saturday, November 5th

Watch for November’s newsletter for a listing of many of the items up for bid at our auction.  We have dozens and dozens...and dozens of items to bid on which include gift certificates to local business, collectibles and hand-made items!  You can also view many of these items NOW on the Senior Center’s facebook page, at the Senior Center on the bulletin board in the main hall, or visit www.auctionzip.com.  In addition to the Auction, we will be having a pie sale and we have three fabulous raffle prizes: Raffle tickets will go on sale starting October 1st until November 5th at Noon.  $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00.   (You do NOT have to be present to win).  We thank our contributors to this year’s auction—many, many generous donations have been made!  Please visit our facebook page or our website—and don’t forget to patronize our sponsoring organizations!  We also thank our auctioneer, Riley Kahl for donating his time and services to us for our biggest fundraiser of the year!  Doors open at 9:00 AM and bidding will begin at 9:30 AM.

Happenings...

Financial Education for 55+
This program is designed to address any unanswered questions about finances that you may have.  Meeting on Thursday, October 20th from 6:00—8:00 PM (light supper provided).  Guest speaker and debt counselor, Ellen Bernards will be discussing senior citizens and debts, mortgages, and financial concerns.  Our other guest speaker is Attorney Beth Cox and she will be discussing POA’s, wills, trusts and how to avoid probate.  Please sign up for this FREE program by Friday, October 14th by calling 835-5801.

Self Defense for Men & Women (55+)
You have the absolute right to defend yourself!  This class will cover awareness and physical self-defense techniques.  Learn how not to be an easy target and a few basic self-defense techniques.  If you have not taken a self-defense course before, this is a great opportunity for you!  One time, no commitment, learn something new to keep yourself safe!  Taught by Ida Dempich.  Wednesday, October 12th from  9:00-11:00 AM.  Cost of class is $20—wear loose fitting, comfortable clothing if possible. Genealogy
Explore your roots and watch your family tree grow! 
Classes held on Thursdays from 6:00—8:00 PM; cost is $35.00 per person. 
Session 1 (October 20th): Examination of vital records and censuses for clues that help in researching ancestors.
Session 2 (October 27th): Wisconsin Historical Society online or in person
Session 3 (November 3): Resources found at a local library; online resources that can be reached from home and in-house material kept at libraries.
Session 4 (November 10): Do’s and don’ts when publishing your family genealogy online. 
Students should be familiar with the internet.  Bring problems you want to work on.  Instructor Pat Skubis is the past president of the Dane Country Area Genealogical Society.  Call 835-5801 or 835-4097 to sign up by October 13th.
 
Thanksgiving BINGO!
Laugh, gobble, win prizes, eat, be surprised—and not necessarily in that order.  What better way to spend Friday, November 18th from 11:45 AM—1:30 PM. Plan to attend our Thanksgiving meal “feathered” with a game of Bingo (which is always best after a good meal!).  Sign up by Wednesday, November 16th by calling 835-5801.

Silk Scarf Dyeing
Create a colorful silk scarf using materials to dye the fabric in a microwave.  Enjoy an easy way to make a beautiful product!  No art background is necessary.  Bring an apron or smock, rubber gloves, an old towel and your imagination for creative fun.  Class is taught by Nancy Welch and will be held on Thursday, December 1st from 6:00—8:00 PM.  Cost is $28.00 and deadline for registration is Wednesday, November 23rd.  Call 835-5801 to sign up!
Cookie Bake & Take for Families
Gather for an evening of fun! Several workstations will be set up and each group will make different types of treats. All treats will be divided between participants at the end. Basic ingredients and recipes provided. Bring a mixing bowl, 2 cookies sheets, measuring cups/spoons and utensils, plus containers to take home your goodies. This an easy & fun activity to do with your grandchildren (ages 8 and up) for $8.00 per adult or adult/child pair.  Class will be held on Monday, December 5th from 5:30-7:00 PM.  Call Erica at 835-5801 by November 30th to sign up.
